Indian Fair

The fair celebrates the intense relationship between Cuba and Begur, which has its origins in the emigration of many Begur residents to the island throughout the 19th century. Upon returning to the town, those who had prospered in their businesses built ostentatious houses that still decorate the streets of Begur today. They were the popular “Americanos”, who sought to recreate the Cuban lifestyle and who left us a diverse cultural legacy.

On the first weekend of September, Begur is transformed to relive that historical period that has left a deep mark on our town and our identity. The streets and squares of Begur host a market of overseas products, craft shows and musical performances. The Fair opens with the official inauguration by political authorities and people linked to the Indian world.

Various musical activities are scheduled during the Fair. Caribbean rhythms, with internationally renowned Cuban groups such as Barnahabana or Máquina del Sabor, ensure fun and entertainment for the most demanding public.

There is also no shortage of habaneras or street shows, with recreations of the Indian era. All this is complemented by a series of cultural activities: exhibitions, guided tours, interviews, conferences, documentaries or round tables, which analyze and disseminate this legacy of the “Americanos”.
