Music Festival

Born in 1977, the Begur Music Festival is one of the most traditional festivals on the Costa Brava. It is held annually between the first weekend of August and the first weekend of September, and the program includes the concert in Esclanyà, the Cantada d’Havaneres de Begur, the Saturday concerts and the concerts during the Fira d’Indians.

The philosophy of the Begur Music Festival “La cruïlla d’ultramar” is to offer quality concerts, as well as a diversity of styles that can range from son, rumba, salsa, bolero, habaneras, Latin dances, lyrical or traditional, sea shows… Music that recalls and identifies the history of our municipality.

The purpose of this festival is to offer a program aimed at the people of Begur and its visitors, with the aim of providing added value to the summer cultural offer and also being an element of promotion of the municipality through music.

A musical proposal open to everyone. All concerts are free.

Singing habaneras

The havanera is a musical genre of the so-called back and forth, which has its origins during the 19th century in Cuba, in the contradansa. This rhythm, modified with the ancestral contributions of African music by Cuban musicians, led to what is known as the havanera.

In Catalonia there has always been a tradition of groups singing habaneras in seaside taverns.

In Begur, two very well-known Habaneras are held. One of them in August, in Plaça Esteve i Cruañas , in the center of Begur, and the other on Sa Riera beach. Both of them do not miss the typical rum cremat!!!
